Videos of Guards Murdering an Inmate in Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Jail

In December, I posted a blog about the brutal and senseless murder of Ernest "Marty" Atencio by Arpaio's guards. I just posted two videos to YouTube showing the guards murdering Marty, a mentally ill Latino military veteran. Marty is stood against a wall, not attacking anyone, when a guard grabs him, and they all start beating him and electrocuting him with Tasers. How can that be justified by Arpaio?

I doubt that the guards will be held accountable. Arpaio will protect them as he always does.

Shaun I watched the first clip of with the news guys talking about it and it just makes me want to vomit. I've had to stop watching the other bit of footage 30 seconds in. It is brilliant that you turn attention onto these incredible and sickening acts committed by Arpaio's regime. Such dreadful horror and injustice. Do you know what is happening now with this case?

  2. Reporting such acts is exactly why Jon's Jail Journal was started. Nothing will happen to Arpaio or the guards who committed the murder. The family of Marty will sue, and will get millions in compensation. Arpaio's attorney friends will rack up astronomical legal fees defending Arpaio, and may even kick him back some of the money in the form of political contributions. The taxpayer pays for it all. Case closed.

Why do I suspect that this will be quickly covered up and 'good ol' sheriff joe with his gang of merry thugs will walk free? would love to see him spend a year in one of his own prisons in a cell with one of the guys he's been serving the red death to!

  4. If you look at the YouTube comments, Arpaio's supporters are saying these videos are some kind of hoax in retaliation for Arpaio announcing that Obama's birth certificate is fake. People ask me all the time how does Arpaio have any support in light of the atrocities committed by his regime. Well, Arpaio is a master of brain-washing as the YouTube comments demonstrate.

aside from sharing this info, what can be done? what actions can people take to support the JJJ mission?

  6. sadly, even Obama hasn't been able to oust Arpaio, its up to the people of Arizona to vote him out this year, and anything that brings attention to the atrocities should help raise awareness in Arizona

I didn't want to watch this for the longest time. I finally did and I'm so disgusted by it! This is why I'm going to Law School in fall and becoming a Criminal Defense Attorney. People make mistakes but that doesn't give us the right to murder them. Especially in this case he did nothing to force this type of Misconduct by the officers.

How a life can be valued by any amount of money is astounding, but only in America could you have a guy this corrupt and so much proof, and yet so many people thinking that he's a saint. What does he have to do? it seems to me that Arizona is full of right wing nutbars (this is the same country voting for the likes of Romney), and that no matter how much proof or facts you put in front of people, they'll find some way to justify it. So glad I'm British!

Being devil's advocate .....how do we know they murdered him? Hard to tell from the footage but perhaps their intervention brought on a heart attack? He hardly posed a threat so their intervention doesn't make sense.
