Making a Murderer Update 1 - Juror 11's Message

Juror 11, Rick Ray, published this statement on his Facebook wall on Dec 20:

There was a father of a Manitowoc county officer on the jury, also the husband of a woman who works in the Manitowoc county clerks office, whom should have never been on the jury. I was juror #11. The .22 in Steven Avery's trailer was never dusted for prints, Stevens DNA was tampered with and other things that were not adding up to me. I was excused for an emergency. My gut feeling after looking at all the evidence is that the killer is still out there. I talked to another juror after the trial. I asked him why they found him guilty and he told me, think of all the things he did when he was younger. If they after I left after four hours of deliberation, convicted him on that basis then most of us should be locked up for the stupid shit we did when we were younger. After I watched this, my feeling of his innocence is stronger. I am not saying the police did this terrible crime and my heart goes out to Teresa's family no family should have to go thru what they did. But my heart also goes out to the Avery family. And it worries me that the real killer may still be out there while once again an innocent man is put back in prison. Many jobs and reputations were on the line with Steven suing for $36 million. And who found that key in averys trailer, one of the Manitowoc deputies that should have not been there in the first place and had a lot to lose from Stevens civil suit against Manitowoc county and this officer and other officers.

It sounds like this juror could have made a big difference. Talk about really bad luck.

I would love to know what went into the decision to go with an alternate, as opposed to going with a mistrial. Was it the money (for a continued defense team)? My thinking is that the jury was tainted by all of the publicity, but maybe with a new jury and the fact that all of that publicity that came from Brendan's confession would be further in the past and therefore more vague, maybe it would be less of a factor.

I believed Steve Avery to be innocent way before the evidence was fully presented. You could just tell by the way he spoke to his family during his first stay in prison. This was not a man who could brutally kill someone.

It breaks my heart to see an innocent man have his life taken away like this.

Is there any hope for him, other than a pardon from the governor? And, what is the chance of that?

After watching the trials of both Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey, I am appalled at the justice system in Wisconsin and completely heart broken for this family. If anyone could look at Brendan, and listen to him speak, and honestly think he could have done anything is beyond me. He was a scared kid who didn't know or understand what was going on, or what the consequences would be for saying that he was there, or doing what he said he did. It's clear every time he was talked to by any law enforcement or any attorney, that every bit of his confession was put into his head by them. And Steven Avery is as innocent as they come. This county has had a personal vendetta against this man from day one. What could possibly be this man's motive after spending 18 years in prison, for something he didn't even do. He thought he was about to get $36 million in a settlement, so why would he commit a murder on his own property no less?? I truly feel sorry for anyone that gets caught up in the Wisconsin justice system, because if you do, you'll never get a fair trial and it's obvious you'll do serious jail time for crimes you never committed. I truly believe both of these men to be innocent, and I seriously hope and pray that they are released in the near future thanks to the documentary regarding this family and this case. God be with the people who had anything to do with this setup, which is clearly what this was. Again...

My heart goes out to everyone involved in this case for all the pain felt, but particularly for Steve and his naive nephew. I cannot imagine rational, thinking beings would not have a shadow of a doubt, having seen both presentations of evidence - it is blaringly obvious the chain of evidence was corrupted by the County's involvement. I pray the documentary will illicit much needed change in that county - as well as across the board in the "Justice" system - which is shown to have severe failures when making *Life Altering* decisions on citizens' dispositions.

I knew from the get that the jury would be extremely biased,I also couldn't believe that the way they handled Brendan's interviews and basically told him what story to say. The boy is not all there and is probably terrified of authority or people being angry with him and calling him names and bullying him. The conflict of interest with the lawsuit and that police department being involved in the investigation at all much less being actively involved at the crime scene, plus the crime scene itself was huge and he knows that place better than anyone if he wanted to get rid of someone and their car he could have done a much better job of making sure it was never found. And they corrupted and contaminated the chain of evidence and never found any blood anywhere and even if you bleach it luminol still shows you where it was and they never found any, except his which probably came from the vial that the seals were broken on and had a needle hole. Also, if someone wants to kidnap rape and kill a woman they don't tell everyone she's going to be at their house for business and then keep her car and belongings and all the evidence right by your house and in plain sight when you've got the means to make it all disappear.

This little community and the state of Wisconsin better get down on their knees and ask the Father for forgiveness for what they've done to Steven, Brendan and their families and their lives. The true killers better come forth and admit their wrongdoing soon, because if they all wait for Steven's and Brendan's natural deaths, they will spend eternity with the Evil one. At least if they admit their guilt now, there is a chance that they can pay some of their penalty here on earth. The Judges, the prosecutors, the lying witnesses, the old boyfriend and roommate( who are probably the real killers), the brother of Theresa....you will all pay dearly for what you've done and said about these men and their families. You have all called the wrath of God down upon yourselves. You have sealed your fate....

I think everyone is missing the big picture . Who was agro with the victim ?? Who sent her there ? She was quitting and starting her own auto trade bog which was doing really well . Its a big company owned by equity investors m they wouldnt like that . Is there a connection between that business and the police ?? Or anyone else in the family or her family ??? Phone records would have helped piece the puzzle but non were obtained ? Why not ? Someone who was bound to win 30 million would not be killing someone on their premises in such a sloppy fashion that is for certain . No DNA imposible . The legal team did not test the bones themselves or establish time of death which could have blown it wide open , carbon dating , Dna etc , did the bones come from a crematorium ?? If so traces ofgas would have been present . Who had continual contact with the police but stood to gain the answer the girlfriend Jodie . They based the whole case on credibilty of police which was not attqacked enough by the defence , of course we now know he wa a deviate and are there any women out there that he has been with and have dissapeared ?? Also as far as credibility goes there was a case of a woman who sent over 40,000 people to prison based on completely false forensic evidence a clear example of corruption on squeaky clean police . They had motive to get him 30 million worth of motive but what motive did he have to get her ?? Non , certanly not 30 millions worth . 2 people hunting at the same time in different places but seeing each other ? Hunting humans ?? Jodie knows i think , it is very common for police to use other inmates for a crime , she had all the info needed and was in constant contact with the police . Phone records would really sort the whole thing out who contacted who and when including the Auto trader . What about the guy who lived with her ? The x boyfriend AND THE WOMAN WHO FOUND THE CAR WAS VERY SUSPECT she would crack under pressure she was fretting on the stand . The x is a male nurse a lot of male nurses are gay, was he the boyfriend of the guy living with her ?? Why did they break up ??? My guess is the prosecuter might also be gay or bi sexual going on his form . what about his phone records and the othr cops phone records ??

The killer isn't still out there...he died in 2011.

No. Steven made the choice to go with an alternate juror. He and his legal team determined that was their best chance at that point.

How do you know that? If you are thinking of Gregory Allen that was the assailant from the original conviction that Steven was exonerated from. No one had ever identified who the killer was in the Halbach case.

There are definitely a lot of particulars like that to take into consideration. That could be a great level to bring up. I offer the ideas above as basic inspiration however clearly there are questions just like the one you bring up the place crucial factor will likely be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged round issues like that, however I'm positive that your job is clearly identified as a fair game.
